Background Information 
Professional profile:

Vijay Bhalaik completed his medical school training in 1995.  After completing his basic surgical training he undertook a research fellowship at Wirral University Hospital.  He then successfully completed the Orthopaedics and Trauma training programme in the Mersey region. 

He underwent specialist training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit.  He trained in reconstructive and plastic surgery of the hand at the Mersey regional Plastic Surgery Unit and Alder Hey Children's Hospital. 

He was selected for an advanced fellowship of the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in Derby, a world renowned unit and centre of excellence in hand surgery.  He was awarded an AO fellowship, which gave him the opportunity to work in the Indiana Hand Centre, Indianapolis, USA.

He is a Consultant Hand and Upper Limb Surgeon at the Wirral University Teaching Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust.  He is also an Honourary Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University and teaches on the faculty of various training course for healthcare professionals. 

His clinical practice encompasses all aspects of hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder and peripheral nerve problems.  He has special interests in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and wrist for sports injuries and arthritis.  His practice also includes the management of common disorders of the upper limb, such as frozen shoulder, nerve entrapments, trigger fingers and arthritis of the hand and wrist

Personal profile:

Vijay is married with a baby son.  He is a keen cook and photographer.  He likes the outdoors and tries to spend time walking with his family.
