Background Information 
Professional profile:
As a consultant general surgeon I have 20 years experience in repairing hernias, removing gallstones, lumps, bumps, in-growing toe-nails etc. I also do children's general surgery for routine children's complaints, such as hernias, circumcisions, undescended testes etc.

My main sub-specialist interest is in vascular surgery which includes treating people with poor circulation and also varicose veins. I have been a pioneer in the modern treatment of varicose veins and have also published extensive research on the subject (see www.mrstephenblair.co.uk).

Treatment for varicose veins may include laser ablation under local anaesthetic, foam schlerotherapy or open surgery. I was also one of the inventors of the four layer bandage system for treating venous leg ulcers, which is now the world-wide mainstay of treatment.
Personal profile:

Outside of work I am very involved in the church and community life of Heswall. I play tennis and golf and I have a lovely grown up family. I am a trustee of the Rock of Joy trust, which is a Wirral based charity which provides aid and support for deprived children at two schools in Uganda. We take large youth groups to Uganda every two years to run holiday clubs and to widen the horizons of the young people we take. I also do rural medical work in Uganda, where no medical care is available.
