Dr Ahlquist is a Physician with a specialist expertise in Endocrinology, Diabetes and general medicine. He trained in Bristol, Birmingham and Oxford and also worked at Massachusetts General Hospital (USA). He has worked as a Consultant in Southend since 1995, and also does regional clinics in Essex and in London.
Endocrinology is about hormone disorders. The most common conditions are thyroid disease, reproductive matters and problems with calcium balance. Pituitary disease is less common and this is an area where Dr Ahlquist has particular expertise. Endocrinology also includes disease of the Adrenal Glands and Pancreas, and some uncommon genetic disorders.
Diabetes is an increasing problem in our community, and routine care often requires some specialist input. People with diabetes often have concerns about choice of treatment, the complications of diabetes and what the future holds and Dr Ahlquist is able to provide information and care to patients with this condition.
Dr Ahlquist lives locally to the Wellesley Hospital. In addition to medicine his other great interest is in music. He also sings in a number of local choirs.
