Mr Arullendran graduated from the University College London in 1991. After medical school he developed a research interest in infectious diseases and completed the Diploma in tropical medicine (DTMH) before working on a trial for the MRC in West Africa, and publishing the work in the Lancet. Mr Arullendran then commenced a general practice rotation (completing a Diploma in Mental Health, DMH) but after experiencing an ENT attachment decided to switch to this specialty which he has practiced ever since. Mr Arullendran came to the Northeast for my registrar Training, and is happily settled in the region as a consultant.As a consultant Mr Arullendran has been involved in developing the Balance service to complement his specialist interests in chronic ear discharge and dizziness. He has also developed the swallow service, to introduce new techniques using the Laser and Botox. He has sat on the Royal college of Surgeons examination board, and has been training programme director for otolaryngology in the Northeast (2008-2011). During his tenure Mr Arullendran guided the training programme from number 7 in the national PMETB league table to number 1. He currently sits as Surgical Training committee chairman.
