Qualified from the Middlesex Hospital, University of London in 1985 (now part of University College London). Trained in general surgery in West London at the West Middlesex Hospital and the Hammersmith Hospital, Royal Postgraduate Medical School. Trained in cardiac surgery at Harefield Hospital, National Heart and Lung Institute, the Hammersmith Hospital and the Middlesex Hospital in London in all aspects of cardiac surgery including transplantation. British Heart Foundation Research Fellow in 1995 leading to the award of MD by the University of London. Locum Consultant Surgeon 1996-1997 at the Harefield Hospital. Appointed Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Southampton General Hospital since 1998. Senior Lecturer, University of Southampton since 1999.
Academic interests have resulted in the puclication of over 120 peer-reviewed publications, 2 books of cardiac surgery and the award of research fellows of higher degrees (MS and PhD) by the University of Southampton. Programme Director for Cardiothoracic Surgery Training for the Wessex Region. Currently on the editorial board of the journal Heart and the International Board of Cardiothoracic Newtwork CTSnet. Examiner for the Intercollegiate Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Communication Secretary for the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgery in Great Britain and Ireland.
In my spare time I enjoy walking, gardening and listening to music.
