Martin Holt started the shoulder & elbow service at University Hospitals South Manchester on his appointment as Consultant in 1997 after a two year Upper Limb Fellowship in Liverpool. He specialises in arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery and manages complex referrals from other shoulder / elbow surgeons. As a recognised authority he successfully treats the shoulder and elbow problems of Olympic and International sportsmen and women and regularly treats aspiring players of all age groups. He learnt a number of techniques on his Charnley Fellowship in shoulder arthroplasty and arthroscopy when in the USA. Since 1995, he has been a lecturer and demonstrator on National and International limb arthroplasty and arthroscopic meetings and courses in Europe and the Middle East. He is a member of the education committee for the British Elbow and Shoulder Society and since 2005 as Course Convenor and Faculty Chairman, teaches specialist shoulder Consultants on the Master Techniques in Arthroscopic Shoulder Surgery. His research interests and publications are on upper limb arthroplasty, arthroscopy and anatomical variants. His ten year review of his private practice procedures has shown that all rotator cuff repairs, impingement and instabilities inclusive of complex multidirectional can be successfully treated by arthroscopic (keyhole) operations.

In 1983, Mr. Holt qualified at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and gained his FRCS(Ed) in 1987 and FRCS (Orth) in 1995. He enjoys many sports but has difficulty in finding time for them all. Mr. Holt and his family also enjoy skiing and he enjoys angling, though The Prince Albert Angling Society has alot more fish available as a result of his angling "skills"! One of the teams Mr. Holt supports with his son is Macclesfield Town F.C.
