Weight loss and aging can result in loose or sagging skin on our upper arms. Arm lift surgery (brachioplasty or arm reduction surgery) could help to give you back slimmer, more youthful looking arms.

The procedure reduces the amount of loose skin that leads to 'bingo wings' or 'bat wings', and may give you back the confidence to wear short-sleeved clothes again.

What to expect

When you meet with your consultant you can discuss the changes you are hoping to achieve. The consultant will explain the results you can expect from the surgery and will discuss the associated risks and alternatives to the procedure before going ahead.

During your surgery excess skin and fat are removed from between the armpit and elbow. The remaining skin is stretched and stitched back together resulting in slimmer, smoother upper arms. There will be some visible scarring which may be down the arm or just in the armpit and your consultant will discuss this with you before your operation.

Arm lift surgery is carried out under a general anaesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the procedure. You may need to stay in hospital overnight, and will also need to plan time off work so that you can relax and recover at home.
