    Professional profile:
    After graduating in medicine, Dr Shahid Ali spent a few years working for the army. Part of his time was spent in Bosnia under United Nations cover. While treating Bosnian children during the Balkan war, he developed an interest in children's medicine. 

    Dr Shahid Ali trained as a paediatrician in the West Midlands and Northern deaneries. In addition to mastering his skills as a general paediatrician, he developed an interest in children's cancers and blood disorders including leukaemia's.

    In his current NHS consultant post half of his time is spent looking after children with common medical problems. Dr Ali spends the remaining time looking after children with cancers. This latter work involves working in close liaison with The Children's Hospital, Birmingham.

    For private consultations, he is happy to see any child who needs a general paediatric opinion on an outpatient basis. Common problems that he sees are asthma, allergy, infections, headache, tummy ache, slow growth, vomiting/diarrhoea/constipation, urine infections, fits/faints, anaemia's, lumps/enlarged lymph nodes etc. Dr Ali tends to provide holistic care to children. He is quite well linked up with colleagues in paediatric subspecialties and if a child needs a tertiary referral, he can quite happily arrange that.
    Personal profile:
    Dr Shahid Ali work as a children's doctor and his wife teaches in a primary school. Hence they are both very children friendly. They both live in Sutton Coldfield along with their three children. 

    Dr Ali likes to spend time with his family, watch Formula 1 and do amateur photography.
