Dr Russell Smith was appointed consultant physician and cardiologist in 1996 after qualification and training in London. His NHS bas was initially Good Hope Hospital with sessions at University Hospital Birmingham. In 2009 he moved full time to University Hospital Birmingham. He is a general cardiologist with special interests including interventional cardiology for ischaemic heart disease and complex device therapy for heart failure. Dr Smith has important roles in education and training as an Honorary Senior Lecturer and Associate Dean.
Dr Russell Smith is married to Elizabeth a local stroke physician. They have three children completing higher education. In his spare time he enjoys watching sport and taming his new allotment.
