Our team of orthopaedic surgeons and other medical professionals are experienced in caring for a wide range of complex conditions in a clean and comfortable environment that supports the quickest possible recovery.
Minimally invasive hip surgery centre of excellence
In 2008, Little Aston launched its minimally invasive hip surgery centre of excellence. A radical new approach to hip surgery is offered, led by pioneering UK surgeon Mr Gursharan Chana. The new hip replacement operation means less scarring and pain for patients, helping them to be up and about more quickly after surgery.
Computer assisted knee surgery
A further development in orthopaedic surgery at Spire Little Aston Hospital was the introduction of computer assisted knee surgery. This technique uses 3D imaging and real time monitoring in the planning and delivery of surgical procedures in trauma and orthopaedics. Orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Ashvin Pimpalnerkar, who is leading the new service, says, “Computer aided surgery offers some advantages over conventional techniques, providing the surgeon with greater visualisation, and improved accuracy and precision in surgical procedures. For the patient it offers reduced post operative pain and hospital stay.”
The technique is currently being used for total knee replacement, ligament reconstruction, cartilage injury mapping and grafting.
