Professor Pavord has provided a general Respiratory Medicine service at Glenfield and Loughborough Hospitals as an NHS Consultant since 1995 and has been seeing private patients at Spire Leicester Hospital since 2006. Before that he was a Lecturer in Respiratory Medicine at Nottingham City Hospital and a Clinical Fellow at McMaster University in Canada.
Professor Pavord has a particular interest in asthma, chronic pulmonary disease and chronic cough. He is an internationally renowned researcher in these areas and has played a lead role in developing three of the most promising emerging treatments. He has published 220 scientific papers, including three of the 20 most cited papers in the field in the last 10 years. His main contribution has been to develop new methods to assess and treat airway inflammation and airway diseases. He has been an honorary Professor of Medicine at Leicester University since April 2005, Chief Medical Advisor to Asthma UK since May 2008 and joint Editor of Thorax since 2010.
In 2004 he became the second UK based clinician to deliver the annual Cournand lecture, an honour given by the most prominent respiratory researcher in Europe aged under 45.
Professor Pavord is married to a consultant haematologist and has three teenage children. He is a keen golfer and a member of Notts and Rothley Golf Clubs, playing to a handicap of four.
