As spinal surgical consultant, Mr Sell deals with all types of spinal disorders. His clinical practice includes the care of spinal deformities, spinal tumours, spinal fractures, neurological compromise and the management of back pain. Mr Sell’s standard practice is to copy all communications that are sent to general practitioners to the patient as well, for their information. Mr Sell is an active member of various spinal surgical societies in Britain and Europe. He is currently Secretary of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons. Mr Sell’s professional aim is to provide a high quality, evidenced based approach to the care of spinal disorders. He endeavours to provide clinical information so that the patient can determine themselves which treatment they believe would be most likely to benefit them. Mr Sell was appointed as a consultant to University Hospitals of Leicester in 1993. His NHS practice is split between the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital.
In Mr Sell’s years of training, he has travelled, spending time working in a mission hospital in South Africa in 1983. His Spinal Fellowship was in Hong Kong specialising in surgery of deformity and he collaborated under a research project that resulted in the award of the Russell Hibbs Prize in 1992 for the best paper presented to the Scoliosis Research Society. This publication related to tuberculosis of the spine.

Mr Sell's leisure activities centre around his family and include golf, motor cycling and dog walking.
