Our orthopaedic team is experienced in treating a wide range of orthopaedic conditions in a clean and caring environment, promoting the quickest possible recovery.
In 2007 Spire Leicester performed 332 hip and knee replacements. This includes a range of hip replacements performed by Mr Richard Power and Mr Stuart Birtwistle. Mr Birtwistle also undertakes hip resurfacing surgery, an alternative to total hip replacement where the two bones forming the hip joint are replaced by metal components.
Knee replacement surgery and minimally invasive knee surgery is performed by a number of consultants including Mr Tim Green and Mr Steve Godsiff. Patients regularly travel from outside Leicestershire with sports injuries to seek treatment from Mr Michael Allen for foot and ankle injuries and Mr Subi Tandon for sporting knee injuries.
Treatment for a ‘bad back’ and spinal surgery is available with Mr Omar Gabbar and Mr Phillip Sell. Arthroscopic surgery on the shoulder is performed by Mr Radhakant Pandey, covering shoulder cuff repairs, stabilisation of the shoulder and resurfacing. For upper limb and hand surgery we can offer the services of Professor Dias who has an international reputation for his surgical expertise.
All our orthopaedic surgery is performed in theatres with laminar flow and recovery takes place in our clean private rooms. Spire Leicester Hospital is proud of an excellent record of low rates of infection.
Supporting our orthopaedic surgeons is Spire Leicester Hospital’s team of physiotherapists. The team offer a dynamic service specialising in musculo-skeletal conditions and devising and implementing orthopaedic rehabilitation programmes.
