    Background Information
    Professional profile:
Dr Philip Wood's main aims with his practice are to help individuals understand how their immune system can result in disease, in particular allergies, recurrent infections and chronic fatigue. These are all areas where many doctors have only limited knowledge and expertise, and he tries to provide this expertise to sufferers with such illnesses.

Dr Wood was appointed as a consultant immunologist at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS trust and started work in January 2002. He trained in medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, from where he graduated in 1991 after undertaking a degree in immunology.

After completing general medical training Dr Philip Wood spent three years as a medical research fellow at the University of Oxford. Subsequently he undertook higher specialist training in clinical immunology and allergy in Birmingham, and spent the last 18 months of his training as a clinical lecturer in Immunology at Birmingham University.

Dr Wood is a member of the NICE guideline group for diagnosis and management of CFS/ME. He is currently the national chair of the UK-Primary Immunodeficiency Network (UK-PIN). Dr Wood has an active research programme in allergy and immunodeficiency.

Dr Philip Wood sees a wide range of allergic problems, from food allergies and intolerance syndromes to severe allergic rhino-conjunctivitis, including those people potentially requiring desensitisation treatment, in addition to recurrent urticaria and angioedema. Referrals for assessment of recurrent infections will be fully investigated.

Dr Wood has a special interest in post-viral and chronic fatigue and welcomes referrals for this group of disorders.
    Personal profile:
Dr Philip Wood is married with two children and is a keen gardener. He is an accomplished pianist and gives an annual recital for charity.
