Spire Harpenden Hospital is a leading private hospital, based in Hertfordshire in the South East of England. The hospital caters for a wide range of patients from Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire, as well as from other parts of the United Kingdom and abroad. We use highly experienced and skilled consultants and staff to carry out all our services; including liposuction.
If you have stubborn areas of fat that you can’t shift with diet or exercise, liposuction could be the answer. Liposuction reshapes the body by permanently removing fatty deposits from those problem areas. These are commonly the tummy, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees and chin. The procedure can make a big difference to body shape, and may give a real boost to your self-confidence.

About the liposuction (fat removal) procedure
There are several different liposuction techniques. During “wet” liposuction, a fluid mixture is injected into the area being treated. A thin metal tube called a cannula is inserted through an incision in the skin and attached to a vacuum pump or syringe to remove the fluid and fat. “Dry” liposuction uses the cannula and suction in a similar way but without the initial injection of fluid.
Fat removal through liposuction should not be considered as a way to lose weight. It is better to have liposuction after you have achieved your target weight to smooth out any saggy, or stubbornly fatty areas.
The procedure is normally performed under general anaesthetic, which means you will be asleep during the operation. If only a small area of fat is to be removed local anaesthetic may be used instead which means the area will be numb but you will be awake.
As with any cosmetic procedure, it is important that you review your expectations thoroughly before you decide to proceed. Your surgeon will explain the results you can expect after liposuction, and will discuss the associated risks and alternatives to the procedure before going ahead.
With Spire Healthcare you will see a consultant of your choice at a time that suits you. You will be treated in a premium private hospital, not a clinic, and you can be assured of our commitment to healthcare standards and infection control excellence.
