Richard Pickard is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in the management of all spinal conditions.
Mr Pickard completed his training as a spinal surgeon at the world leading spinal centre in Oxford, undertaking a prestigious 1 year advanced spinal fellowship giving comprehensive training in all aspects of cutting edge spinal surgery. This was followed by a further year as a Consultant at the Oxford Spinal Unit before moving to Hertfordshire. He graduated from Southampton Medical School in 1993 and undertook his specialist registrar orthopaedic surgical training on the Hampshire rotation considered nationally as one of the best training schemes.
He is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon at the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
Mr Pickard has a spinal practice that covers all elements of spinal surgery throughout the lumbar, cervical and thoracic spine. This includes back and neck pain, sciatica, microdiscectomy, spinal decompression, spinal fusion, balloon kyphoplasty / vertebroplasty, minimally invasive surgery, disc replacement, spinal fusions, deformity, degenerative conditions, epidurals, facet joint injections and nerve root blocks.
He has published extensively and presented papers at both national and international meetings. He is also regularly asked to teach on spinal training programs throughout London and the South.
Mr Pickard also provides trauma and spinal surgical support to the British Forces holding the rank of Surgeon Commander and was 1 of 2 British Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeons and the sole spinal surgeon deployed to camp Bastion Afghanistan for 3 months in the summer of 2011.
