I have dual certification in both general internal medicine and diabetes and endocrinology. I have been working as a Consultant Physician, Diabetologist and Endocrinologist at QEII Hospital since August 2006.
I have wide experience in general medicine and particular interest and experience in complex diabetes and endocrine disorders and endocrine cancer. The latter was acquired through my intensive training at Bart’s and the London Hospitals between 2003 and 2006.
My endocrine clinical research and sub-specialised endocrine training at the Christie Hospital NHS Trust in Manchester between 2000 and 2003 have also provided me with breadth of experience in complex endocrine diseases. I have had extensive research experience which mainly involved hormonal complications of cancer treatment and pituitary disorders and I have numerous novel publications and reviews in this field.
I am currently the Endocrine Lead for the thyroid cancer MDT in East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. I am the lead clinician for endocrine late effects of cancer treatment and the management of diabetes and endocrine disease in pregnancy. I have also taken special interest in adolescent endocrinology. I have been leading on the development and the provision of insulin pump therapy for patients with complex type 1 diabetes. I am heavily involved in the design and the organisation of an extensive clinical audit programme in diabetes and endocrinology in the Trust to maintain high quality service and safe practice.
Through my links with various professional bodies, I always endeavour to maintain my knowledge up-to-date with advances in the management of diabetes and endocrine disease. I tend to refer patients with very complex endocrine disease that require the input of a tertiary centre to St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, which is a world class centre for endocrinology.
