Orthoptics
Senior Orthoptist, St John's Hospital, Livingston
Registration with Health Professions Council
British and Irish Orthoptic Society
I am a Senior Orthoptist based at St John's Hospital Eye Department. For the past four years I have led the West Lothian Orthoptic department. Prior to this I was based at the Eye Pavilion in Edinburgh for 10 years, where I was actively involved in the clinical education of undergraduate orthoptic students. Post qualification I spent two years in the Norwich Orthoptic Eye Department.
As an Allied Health Professional, I carry out a regular programme of continued professional development to comply with guidelines laid out by the Health Professions Council (HPC).
Orthoptists specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of defective vision related to squints and lazy eyes in children. I am also skilled at the diagnosis and treatment of double vision in adults, due to abnormal eye movements arising from disease or injury. Orthoptists work closely with Consultant Opthalmologists and have the facility to provide HESS chart documentation of eye movements, particularly relevant in adults and orbital injuries.
I provide an orthoptic service at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, with access to this service available via referral from Consultant Opthalmologists.
I have lived in Linlithgow, West Lothian, for the past 12 years. I am married with two children, ages nine and six.
