I was appointed in 2006 as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in NHS Fife with the majority of my work being in the field of Colorectal Surgery. My main interests are in the management of colorectal cancers, anorectal conditions like haemorrhoids, fistula in ano and rectal prolapse.
I also perform laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and conventional open inguinal hernia repair on a consistent basis.
One of my specific non-surgical interests is in endoscopic work (colonoscopy). I have established a new patient pathway in Fife called "Consultant-led One-Stop Colorectal Assessment", which is a form of assessing patients with colorectal symptoms and is gaining popularity. This was piloted initially and later on has become an established practice. Unlike other pathways in the UK, this is the first one which consistently uses colonoscopy as an investigative tool.
