Mr Ong qualified from the University of Melboune, Australia in 1999. He then moved over to the UK and trained in General Medical in London, obtaining Membership in the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) (London).
Mr Ong’s Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology was undertaken in Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. During this time, he completed advanced subspecialty fellowship training in both medical and surgical management of retinal disorders. Between 2010-2011, Mr Ong was involved in stem cell and artificial retina (bionic eye) research in Moorfields Eye Hospital and The Institute of Ophthalmology in London.
Mr Ong was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge in 2011. His specialist interests include retinal disorders ( incl Macular Degeneration, retinal vascular diseases and Diabetic Retinopathy) and also vitreo-retinal surgery in particular retinal detachment, macula disorders and complications of Diabetic Retinopathy.
