I trained at St Thomas’s Hospital in London, completed my specialist training and research experience at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham and was appointed to Addenbrookes Hospital in 1985 with sessions in the community. My special interests include falls prevention and bone health and I am a member of the Addenbrookes Metabolic Bone Unit. I set up and initially ran the Addenbrookes Orthogeriatric Unit and until recently ran the community Falls Prevention and Bone Health Clinic. In addition to my interest in general medicine for older people, I have set up an all age Postural Stability and Bone Health Clinic at the Lea, working with therapists and medical professionals in other disciplines to provide a multidisciplinary assessment and management plan for clients with falls, mobility and balance problems. Our aim is to improve client’s mobility, reduce their falls risk and improve their functional capability, demonstrating that falling is not an inevitable consequence of ageing. My other particular interest is working closely with GPs and other healthcare professionals in the community, helping them proactively manage older people whose functional state is beginning to decline including performing joint home visits
I live in Cambridge and am happily married with two children. My wife works in the NHS as a community matron. I love family life but I also play club tennis and enjoy singing, being a member of the Ely Cathedral Octagon Singers.
