New safe treatment for heavy periods

Women suffering from heavy periods now have the opportunity to get quick, safe and effective treatment by a consultant gynaecologist at the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital.

Your treatment options include endometrial ablation. Endometrial ablation is a quick, procedure that removes the lining of the uterus (called the ‘endometrium’) to control bleeding. The endometrial lining of the uterus is shed monthly during a woman’s period. Removing the endometrial lining decreases menstrual blood flow, and in many cases, stops it completely. In addition to the option of microwave ablation, the one-time NovaSure endometrial ablation procedure is now available at the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital. Women can finally find reliable relief from heavy menstrual bleeding safely without the side effects of hormones or a hysterectomy. NovaSure lets women take control of their lives and return to their normal routine quickly. NovaSure is available as an outpatient procedure.

Women wanting to find out more about this and other treatment options for irregular or heavy periods should talk to their GP or Well Woman Sister.
