The fun and excitement of seeing the developing baby on a scan is one of the high points of antenatal care, and we can offer scans throughout pregnancy.
Pregnancy is a very special time for the mother to be, and for all of her family.
The fun and excitement of seeing the developing baby on a scan is one of the high points of antenatal care, and we provide a variety of top quality, expert scans at all stages of pregnancy.
We offer scans throughout pregnancy. We use the most up to date ultrasound machines, in comfortable surroundings, with time to look at your baby. We encourage patients to bring a family member or two and recommend that you keep your midwife informed of your visit to the clinic. We will provide printed images of your ultrasound scan as well as digital versions saved on a USB stick for you to take home and share with your family.
Our patients are at the heart of what we do and we want you to be in control of your care. To us, that means you can choose the consultant you want to see, and when you want. They'll be with you every step of the way.
All of our consultants are of the highest calibre and benefit from working in our modern, well-equipped hospitals.
Our consultants have high standards to meet, often holding specialist NHS posts and delivering expertise in complex sub-specialty surgeries. Many of our consultants have international reputations for their research in their specialised field.
You will have a formal consultation with a healthcare professional. During this time you will be able to explain your medical history, symptoms and raise any concerns that you might have.
We will also discuss with you whether any further diagnostic tests, such as scans or blood tests, are needed. Any additional costs will be discussed before further tests are carried out.
We've tried to make your experience with us as easy and relaxed as possible.
For more information on visiting hours, our food, what to pack if you're staying with us, parking and all those other important practicalities, please visit our patient information pages.
Our dedicated team will also give you tailored advice to follow in the run up to your visit.
We offer several pregnancy scans:
The very latest, most accurate non-invasive method that screens for Down’s Syndrome.
This is our early pregnancy scan. It can confirm that all is well, and show the baby moving. You and can also see and hear the heart beat.
Dating scans are best performed at 7-12 weeks, to confirm that all is well, to date the pregnancy and provide an estimated date for delivery. This is also the best time to check for a twin pregnancy. A reassurance scan can be performed.
This scan is performed at 18 to 24 weeks, to check the vital internal structures of the baby, and check the sex if requested. This is our later pregnancy scan, performed after 24 weeks. It can confirm that all is well by measuring the size of the baby to check the growth, look at the amount of fluid around the baby and see which way the baby is lying. If you have been told you have a 'low placenta' we recommend a scan at 36 weeks.
A reassurance scan can be performed at any stage of pregnancy, over and above the scans above.
The treatment described on this page may be adapted to meet your individual needs, so it's important to follow your healthcare professional's advice and raise any questions that you may have with them.
