Our experienced team understands what you’re feeling. Nothing is more important to us than your wellbeing.

The highest standards

We pride ourselves on reaching the highest clinical excellence, with patient care at the heart of everything we do.

We're here to look after you

You'll be cared for by a team of medical specialists that is dedicated to getting the best results for you. Your treatment will be personally tailored, with your choice of consultant, location and timing.

How quickly can I be seen?

You can see a specialist consultant almost straight away, pretty much when and where you want. With Spire, there is hardly any waiting for tests, scans, investigations or appointments. To make an appointment, all you need is to be referred to one of our respected specialists via your own GP, or we can arrange a private GP appointment for you within 24 hours.

Your stay with us

Your room will be like a home-from-home during your stay with us, complete with ensuite facilities, TV, wifi and award-winning food. Friends and family can visit almost anytime.

Preparing for your visit

Pre-admission clinic
For certain operations you may be asked to attend a pre-admission clinic.  You will be asked about your health and any prior hospital treatment.  It is important that you tell the pre-admission clinic nurse about any allergies that you have, whether you suffer from asthma, hay fever or eczema, and about any medicines that you are taking (whether prescribed, herbal or over the counter).

Dietary requirements

We cater for a range of dietary requirements including:

  • food allergies including dairy, nut and gluten
  • Kosher, halal, vegan and vegetarian diets

If you have any special dietary requirements please inform us in advance of your admission by calling our switchboard on 0191 415 1272 and asking for the in-patient bookings team.

Medication
It may be required for you to stop any hormone medication including the contraceptive pill, HRT or other medication up to six weeks prior o surgery.  Please check with your consultant if this is necessary.  If you are currently taking aspirin, tamoxifen or regular herbal medication, please seek guidance from your consultant.

Fasting instructions
Please refer to your admission letter for details of your fasting times. Please refrain from chewing gum at least two hours prior to surgery.

Coming into hospital

We work hard to make your time with us relaxed and as comfortable as can be. When you arrive at Spire Washington you will be greeted by our friendly reception staff and shown to your room by our welcoming ward clerks.

If you are female and of childbearing age you will be required to pass urine on arrival for a routine pregnancy test.  Please bear this in mind and please refrain from passing urine before you are admitted.

You should have a bath or shower at home on the day of your admission.

Please ensure that you have removed any nail varnish and false nails and are not wearing hair spray or body lotion.

Please note that your admission time is not the time you are due in theatre.  Therefore, please arrive at the time displayed on your admission letter, there is no need to arrive any earlier than this.

While you’re with us

Your immaculate, comfortable room will feel more like a hotel than a hospital. You can surf the web, watch TV and enjoy our delicious food in privacy.

Visitors

We have flexible visiting hours to fit around your life and the people who love you.

Leaving hospital

You can leave hospital whenever your consultant thinks you're ready. Even after you’ve left hospital, we’re here for you every step of the way - we'll make sure you've got all the medication, information and follow-up support that you need.

What to bring

  • Medication - please bring all medication with you in its original labelled container on admission to the hospital
  • Slippers

You may also like to bring:

  • your phone/laptop
  • glasses or contact lens solution
  • toiletries, including toothbrush, toothpaste etc
  • comb or hairbrush
  • nightclothes
  • any dentures or hearing aids and their cases
  • books or magazines
  • shaving kit
  • dressing gown if you wish to bring you own

During your stay you will be provided with fresh hand and bath towels each morning.

We would recommend that you bring some reading material or music with you as there may be a delay between admission and your operation time as it is not uncommon for operating times to change on the day of your surgery.

Our patient rooms are equipped with WiFi and a television with freeview channels.

We ask that jewellery, money and other items of value are left at home. Spire Healthcare cannot be held responsible for loss or damage of any type to personal property brought into the hospital.

Meeting your needs

Whether you're using health insurance or paying for treatment yourself, we're here to look after you. Everyone has access to the same high quality care and equipment.

Patients with a disability

Recognising the needs of every individual, all of our hospitals and centres are accessible to everybody, so we welcome visitors with disabilities. Spire takes its responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA) as employers (Part II), and service providers (Part III) very seriously.

Our goal is to recognise the needs of every individual and to provide health and care services that are appropriate, respectful, inclusive and equal. We always try to meet the needs of any visitor to our buildings. We provide patient information in a variety of formats, including large print and audio versions, and we seek to ensure that our buildings, access routes, signage and lighting meet the needs of people with disabilities.

Children

Children are always welcome in our hospital and they can visit you whenever you like.

Children can be seen for consultation at Spire Washington Hospital dependent on consultant’s practices. However, any interventional procedures on children under the age of 16 would not be carried out at our hospital. Treatment for those aged over 16 is subject to risk assessment on an individual basis.

Continuous improvement

We're constantly striving to improve and maintain excellence. If there's anything you think we can do better, please let us know by calling us on 0800 169 1777.
