Spire Washington Hospital welcomes new consultants

Spire Washington Hospital has expanded its team of specialist consultants have welcomed two new consultants.

Lower limb orthopaedic consultant, Mr Kailash Devalia, who specialises in foot and ankle surgery is now seeing patients at Spire Washington every Tuesday afternoon as well as occasional Friday evenings.

Mr Devalia also works at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead and has a particular interest in treatment of young patients with arthritis and sport related injuries around the ankle joint.

He said: “I am excited to join Spire Washington Hospital. The team are warm and welcoming with a very caring attitude. The hospital is always one step ahead by providing support, capacity and facilities to new consultants like myself.

“I am a dedicated foot and ankle surgeon with special interest in Sports injuries. I take huge pride in providing the highest standards of care for my patients. I combine the latest new techniques with existing proven methods to promise the best outcome, and I look forward to helping patients on the road to recovery at Spire Washington Hospital.

Also joining Spire Washington Hospital’s team of specialists is pain management consultant Dr Amit Kumar. Specialising in the treatment of chronic pain, he will be available for appointments with patients at the hospital every Thursday evening.

In addition to his appointment as a pain management specialist, Dr Kumar also practises as an anaesthetist at Spire Washington Hospital as well as being pain management consultant at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

He said: “I am delighted to be practising at Spire Washington Hospital. I have more than 10 years’ experience in working with patients suffering from chronic pain.

“I am happy to see patients with neck, back, arm or leg pain, as well as sciatica, joint pains and neuropathic pain conditions. I will be working closely with the physiotherapist, acupuncturist and pharmacist to provide patients with rapid and effective pain management.”

Laura Farley, business development manager at Spire Washington Hospital, said: “We now have over 170 consultants ranging in specialities which, with the addition of our two new consultants, are growing even more. I’m thrilled to be welcoming both Mr Devalia and Doctor Kumar to the team.”
