Mr Yusuf Michla
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBChB, FRCS Ed (Tr & Orth)
I have been a consultant surgeon since 2013, specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery. My practice encompasses the use of arthroscopic, (keyhole), surgery about the shoulder as well as shoulder arthroplasty, (joint replacement), work.
I specialise in shoulder and elbow surgery, but I have a particular interest in arthroscopic shoulder reconstruction surgery, shoulder arthroplasty and complex upper limb trauma surgery.
I have a broad experience of arthroscopic shoulder surgery techniques, with many hundreds of such cases performed encompassing cases of impingement, rotator cuff disease and shoulder dislocations, amongst others. I also have an interest in shoulder arthroplasty surgery and spent a fellowship year in New South Wales, Australia, learning contemporary techniques in shoulder replacement surgery including cementless arthroplasty and 'reverse polarity' shoulder replacements for both trauma and rotator cuff deficient shoulder osteoarthritis.
I am very interested in medical education and in addition to my clinical work, I am proud to be able to lead undergraduate education in the field of musculoskeletal medicine for the trauma & orthopaedic department at CHS. I also run an education programme involving lectures around the theme of shoulder surgery which I have delivered to postgraduate orthopaedic surgeons and other allied healthcare specialists.
I have edited a chapter of work on shoulder and elbow surgery for an FRCS tr. & orth. textbook and am also regularly involved in teaching and viva work at FRCS trauma and orthopaedic level in the region.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Yusuf Michla at Spire include:
Orthopaedics - elbow and shoulder
Spire Washington Hospital is only able to provide Covid-19 tests to patients undergoing surgery at our hospital. Covid-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service.
I enjoy spending time with my wife and young children. As they get a little older, they are able to enjoy the beautiful area in which we are fortunate enough to live. If I have any spare energy, I still enjoy running, albeit a little slower than in years gone by.
