Professional profile

I studied medicine at the University of Nottingham, during which time I also completed a BMedSci(Hons). I qualified in 1994 and undertook gastroenterology training at the Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital and Brighton and Sussex University Hospital.

I undertook research into MARS therapy (liver assist device) and the haematological complications of liver disease whilst at the Institute of Liver Studies, Kings College Hospital. I have presented the results of this and other research nationally and internationally and was awarded my MD in 2009 for this work.

I undertook a prestigious hepatology NTN at the Peninsula Liver Centre in Plymouth where I further developed my hepatological and endoscopic training.

I was appointed consultant physician and gastroenterologist in 2009 at St Mary's Hospital, Isle of Wight. Whilst at St Mary's I was the Royal College of Physicians tutor, upper gastrointestinal cancer lead and training lead for endoscopy. I moved back to Medway in 2012.
