Mr Hosam Elhalwagy
MSc, FRCOG, MD
I am a consultant Gynaecologist and Urogynaecologist. I am currently the Lead Urogynaecologist at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust where I have been practicing since 2004.
I have a special interest in urogynaecology. I established an integrated multidisciplinary urogynaecology team across the East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. I am leading the department to attain national British society of urogynaecology accreditation.
I have extensive clinical and surgical expertise to manage urinary incontinence, frequency, urgency and recurrent cystitis and to perform pelvic reconstructive surgery for incontinence and uterovaginal prolapse.
A subjective retrospective audit of my continence surgery showed a success rate of 86% and success rate of prolapsed surgery of 91% in 2015/16. I have also been interested in the management of sexual dysfunction, including vaginal corrective surgery.
I was elected to the membership of the publication Committee of the International Urogynaecology Association and I am currently the editor of the expert corner of the IUGA newsletter.
I practice a holistic style of gynaecology. I have frequently considered conservative and alternative therapies before resorting to surgery. I particularly like teaching and training in my area of subspecialisation. I will always endeavour to update my knowledge and practice to the best practice according to the NICE guidelines and to the most up to date research.
Spire Sussex Hospital is only able to provide Covid-19 tests to patients undergoing surgery at our hospital. Covid-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service.
