Some of the principal treatments carried out by Professor Dae Kim at Spire include:
Through an unique and extensive training, I am the only surgeon in the UK who routinely performs minimally-invasive, keyhole thyroid and parathyroid surgery and one of only two surgeons in the UK who perform scarless transaxillary endoscopic (keyhole) and Da Vinci robotic thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
I am currently based at St George's Teaching Hospital in London and work closely with the Head and Neck team at the Royal Marsden Hospital. However, I continue to undertake clinical sessions at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, offering a specialist service in Head and Neck and Thyroid Surgery. I qualified in Medicine from Edinburgh University in 1995 and Dentistry from Birmingham University (2001). I subsequently trained at Edinburgh and Cambridge teaching hospitals. In the latter stages, I completed a specialist ENT surgery program within the West Midlands and an Advanced Fellowship in both Head and Neck Oncology and Endocrine Surgery at the Toronto General Hospital and the Mount Sinai Hospital, under the tutelage of the world's most renowned surgeons and oncologists.
I have wide experience in treating all aspects of adult and paediatric ear, nose and throat disorders and am happy to see and manage patients with the full range of ENT problems including ear and hearing problems, nasal and sinus problems and complex head and neck problems.
I have a strong commitment to research. I was a research fellow at the Harvard Medical School and completed a PhD doctorate examining the molecular basis of both thyroid and head and neck cancers, for which I was awarded the prestigious 'Syme Medal' by the Royal College of Surgeons. Recently, I was recognised for my contribution to surgical innovation and research with the award of a Professorship in Surgery by Portsmouth University. As testaments to my strive for excellence, I have been awarded multiple research grants and numerous national and international prizes (from the American Thyroid Association and British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons).
After my Advanced Endocrine Surgery Fellowship, I further trained to perform minimally invasive 'keyhole' thyroid and parathyroid surgery under the pioneers of this technique; Professor David Terris (USA) and Professor Paulo Miccoli (Italy). In addition, I have completed a dedicated 'Robotic and Endoscopic Thyroid Surgery Fellowship' at the prestigious Severance Endoscopic and Robotic Institute (Seoul). Here I was mentored by the world famous Professor Chung, who has pioneered the transaxillary 'scarless' robotic and endoscopic thyroidectomy.
