I completed my MBBS at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne Medical School in 1990. I then undertook higher specialist training in cardiovascular medicine at Ninewell University Hospital and Medical School, Dundee from 1994 to 2000. During this period I completed my MD in hypertensive heart disease and contributed to the development of the "Dundee Step Test" and 20 peer reviewed publications.
After obtaining dual CCST in general (internal) medicine as well as clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, I was appointed as a British Heart Foundation clinical lecturer in cardiology at the Wales Heart Research Institute, University of Wales College of Medicine from 2000 to 2003. In this post I completed my training and obtained a further CCST in general cardiology.
I increased my breadth of experience by completing a six month clinical fellowship in cardiology at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, University of Adelaide, Australia in 2002 to 2003, followed by a further two year clinical fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Toronto General Hospital, University of Toronto from 2003 to 2005.
I was appointed as a consultant in cardiology at St George's Hospital in 2005.
My clinical interests are in interventional cardiology, coronary catheterisation, angioplasty, stenting, primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), complex PCI in high risk patients, mitral valve disease and percutaneous mitral valve repair as well as expertise in radial approach interventional cardiology.
