Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr John Foran at Spire include:
General cardiology and heart rhythm disorders (including catheter ablation and device implantation); and coronary artery disease (including percutaneous coronary intervention – angioplasty/stent implantation).
Dr John Foran pursued a career in cardiovascular medicine, training in many aspects of both adult and paediatric cardiology. His training encompassed posts at a number of secondary and tertiary cardiothoracic units including the Brook, St George’s, Great Ormond Street, King’s College and the Manchester Heart Centre.
Having regularly undertaken diagnostic coronary angiography since 1989, he performed his first coronary angioplasty in 1990, and his first catheter ablation procedure in 1991. He now has more than 20 years of experience in these disciplines. In 2003, in the UK, he also pioneered LA appendage closure – a technique for stroke prevention without the need to take Warfarin, in patients with high-risk atrial fibrillation – and he now has 10 years of experience with this treatment modality.
His subspecialist work mainly comprises the evaluation and management of patients with heart rhythm disorders and coronary artery disease. His academic research is clinically orientated and focused on new and emerging therapies for resistant hypertension and stroke prevention in AF.
