After training in general internal medicine in London, I specialised in endocrinology and diabetes and worked at the Medical Research Council Clinical Research Centre, Harrow (1986-1989) and then at St George's Hospital and Medical School, London (1989-1996). I took up my present NHS Consultant post in endocrinology, diabetes mellitus and general medicine at St Helier Hospital, Carshalton in 1996 and I am the Lead Clinician for diabetes and endocrinology.
I have a major interest in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training. I was a Clinical Lecturer at St George's Hospital Medical from 1989 to 1996 and since then I have held the post of Honorary Senior Lecturer in diabetes, endocrinology and general medicine. I was Sub-Dean at St George's Hospital Medical School with particular responsibility for years three and four of the undergraduate medical course from 1999 to 2005. I have made significant contributions to our knowledge of polycystic ovary syndrome and have extensive clinical experience in this and other related conditions.
My clinical interests also include all aspects of endocrinology, including pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disorders, male and female hypogonadism, as well as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia and obesity.
