Professional profile

My particular interests within vascular surgery are venous disease (ranging from thread vein treatment through to managing venous ulcers) and carotid surgery for stroke prevention.

I pioneered awake carotid artery surgery locally and lead a team of Vascular Surgeons and Anaesthetists who have achieved world class results at Portsmouth Hospitals. I am one of nine venous specialists on Spire Healthcare's national advisory panel for treatment of varicose veins and a board member of the British Association of Sclerotherapists.

If you are looking for lesion, mole or skin tag removal for cosmetic reasons, not for a medical concern, I offer ‘see and do’ clinics at Spire Southampton Hospital. In a ‘see and do’ appointment we will discuss what it is that you would like removed and, if appropriate, the lesion can be removed in the minor operations suite in the Outpatients Department during your appointment. For more information, pricing and availability please speak to the team on 023 8076 4314.

I qualified from Leicester University Medical School in 1986, and trained in vascular and general surgery in Oxford, Sydney, Leicester and Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

My research into colour duplex scanning in venous disease and varicose veins led to my MD thesis. I have published and presented over 30 research papers on vascular surgery - the majority being on venous disease. I was appointed Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon to Portsmouth Hospitals in 1998 at the age of 34.

Recent developments in services include 4D duplex scanning for varicose veins. I offer this real time dynamic assessment which will show you on the screen how the veins in your leg are working. The assessment is just like a "baby scan" and, if you choose treatment, you can select a bespoke approach tailored to your individual results.
