Alison Calver is a consultant cardiologist at the Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre at Southampton University Hospital. She qualified from Cambridge University and the University College and Middlesex Hospitals in London in 1986. Her postgraduate training was at St George's Hospital, London, The London Chest Hospital and Southampton University Hospital. Dr Calver also has a background in research and spent 2 years as British Heart Foundation Fellow examining the role of nitric oxide in the control of vascular tone. She obtained MRCP in 1989 and was awarded an MD for her thesis in 1993.
In addition to general cardiology, Dr Calver's interests are in interventional cardiology, transoesophageal echocardiography and pacing. She is a member of the Council of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society and has been a member of British Cardiac Society Working Groups, reporting on workforce issues.
Dr Calver also has a significant committment to Medical Education. She is responsible for cardiology training in Wessex and runs the cardiology training rotation producing the cardiologists of the future.
