Dr Alison Calver
MA, MB BS, MD, FRCP
I am a consultant cardiologist at the Wessex Cardiothoracic Centre at Southampton University Hospital. In addition to general cardiology, my interests are in interventional cardiology, transoesophageal echocardiography and pacing.
I qualified from Cambridge University and the University College and Middlesex Hospitals in London in 1986. My postgraduate training was at St George's Hospital, London, The London Chest Hospital and Southampton University Hospital. I also have a background in research and spent two years as British Heart Foundation Fellow examining the role of nitric oxide in the control of vascular tone. I obtained MRCP in 1989 and was awarded an MD for my thesis in 1993.
I am a member of the Council of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society and have been a member of British Cardiac Society Working Groups, reporting on workforce issues.
I also have a significant commitment to Medical Education. I am responsible for cardiology training in Wessex and run the cardiology training rotation producing the cardiologists of the future.
