Akshay qualified in medicine from Agra University, India in 1997. Following achievement of his membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh), he undertook higher surgical specialist registrar training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the West Midland region. He gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics in 2009 and then worked as a senior registrar training in trauma at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and also in some excellent arthroplasty units in the region. He was awarded the Certificate of completion of training in 2011, following which he undertook a lower limb arthroplasty fellowship in Leicester, UK and then went for a further fellowship in Reconstructive arthroplasty surgery and Trauma to Toronto, Canada. He was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Alexandra Hospital, Redditch in 2013.
He teaches on various regional and national courses and also involved in the regional specialist registrar training programme. He is an Advanced Trauma Life Support® (ATLS®) course instructor. He maintains his keen interest in research and has been involved in various scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals. He regularly audits clinical practice to ensure that care for patients is provided at the highest level.
