3D simulator and virtual reality goggles help cosmetic surgery patients

A 3D simulator and virtual reality goggles can show patients what they might look like after a breast enlargement, which can help them make informed decisions about plastic surgery.

Mr Charles Durrant, consultant plastic surgeon at Spire Portsmouth Hospital, uses the goggles during consultations when patients are considering breast implants.

He said: "The main concern women have before plastic surgery is whether they are doing the right thing. It's difficult to know what you will look like. We try to give as good idea as possible so the patient can make an informed choice, and this is a good tool for us to use."

At the consultation Mr Durrant takes pictures that create a 3D image of the patient. They can then view the 3D version of themselves with various implant sizes, to get a better idea of what they might look like after surgery. Looking down, they can even see what their cleavage might look like with new implants!

The simulator can help the patient get an idea of what size of implants they want and help them decide whether cosmetic surgery is the right choice for them.
