I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) in 1984 at the School for Disorders in Human Communication affiliated to University College London and now based at City University.

Since qualifying, I have worked in several large teaching hospitals along the South East Coast of England as an advanced clinical practitioner and in the USA as an Honorary SLT during my Travelling Fellowship. In addition, I have worked as a clinical researcher for the University of Southampton and in Community NHS posts. In 2005 I set up an Independent Speech and Language Therapy called Communication Partners which provides a range of clinical services to the NHS and Independent sector.

Voice disorders: Vocal nodules, polyps or cysts, vocal cord palsy, muscle tension dysphonia, psychogenic or stress-related voice problems, reflux management, vocal abuse and misuse, aphonia (complete voice loss), cancer of the larynx.

Disorders of Communication: Communication problems in adults, as a result of acquired or progressive neurological conditions. This includes patients who have suffered a stroke or brain injury or who have Parkinson’s disease, Dementia or other progressive neurological disorder.

Swallowing disorders: Assessment and advice for adults with swallowing difficulties relating to impaired laryngeal/pharyngeal function.

Education and Training: Establishing a care pathway for managing swallowing disorders in hospitals, nursing and care homes.

Research interests: Management of voice disorders from a multidisciplinary team perspective. Assessment and treatment of acquired swallowing disorders.
