Dr Diana Coffey
I am a Consultant Psychiatrist with a wide range of experience in adult and old age psychiatry. I have worked as a psychiatrist in the NHS and independent sector for over 20 years. Prior to embarking on psychiatric training, I worked as a GP and emergency doctor and maintain my interest in new developments regarding the diagnosis and treatment of various medical and neuropsychiatric conditions.
I have experience in all areas of psychiatry, with additional experience and training in psychotherapy. I assess and treat patients with depression, bipolar affective disorder, psychosis, bereavement, stress, personality issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, mild cognitive disorder, dementia, menopausal mood changes and other conditions.
I have significant medico-legal experience; I am accredited as an expert and hold Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Expert Witness Certificate and have experience in various capacity related issues including the assessment of financial, testamental and other capacities including Court of Protection forms.
I am on the GMC specialist register in psychiatry and approved under section 12(2) as having special experience in the diagnosis or treatment of mental health disorders and am on the approved clinician's list.
My initial psychiatric training took place at the UMDS/ South Thames regional training scheme in psychiatry at Guy’s and St Thomas College, London, with most of my training placements in Sussex and London.
I completed my higher specialist training in psychiatry on the North East Thames training scheme, mainly in London but also in Essex. During my psychiatric training, I gained experience in all areas of psychiatry including general adult psychiatry (both inpatient and outpatient settings), rehabilitation, old age, liaison psychiatry and forensic psychiatry.

Spire Portsmouth Hospital is only able to provide Covid-19 tests to patients undergoing surgery at our hospital. Covid-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service.

I am one of the senior consultants at Southampton East Older People Mental Health Team and provide regular supervision and advice to junior colleagues and nursing staff. I am involved in regular meetings with GP and other providers.
