Mr Jaf Abu
MBBS, MRCOG, MSc
I am a consultant gynaecological oncology surgeon. I sub-specialise in gynaecological cancer and have substantial experience in carrying out surgical treatments for a spectrum of gynaecological cancers.
I was instrumental to the introduction of keyhole hysterectomy (TotLapHyst) in the management of endometrial cancer in Nottingham. I also introduced keyhole surgical management of cervical cancer (cancer of the neck of the womb) – Total Laparoscopic Radical Hysterectomy (TLRH).
I also regularly perform minimally invasive fertility preservation surgery for early stages of cervical cancer in young women who desire such procedure – Total Laparoscopic Radical Trachelectomy (TLRT). To ensure my clinical skills are up to date, I regularly attend national and international seminars on gynaecological cancers and radical cancer surgery.
I also perform visitations to other hospitals where I provide mentorship to other consultants in minimally invasive surgery in both general oncological gynaecology.
In 2007 I established a bi-annual Masterclass Course which has become popular both nationally and internationally. On the course, I teach other consultants about the keyhole and other laparoscopic procedures in gynaecology.
I have published text book chapters, authored a textbook, and have several peer reviewed publications in reputable journals including the Lancet Oncology.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Jaf Abu at Spire include:
I am an expert in managing complex and advanced ovarian cancer cases and am renowned for my ability to perform complex gynaecological keyhole operations, including surgery for woman who are morbidly obese.
