Dr Neil Martin
Consultant Physician - Respiratory Medicine
MBChB (Hons), BSc (Hons), MRCP, MFSEM, MD
I started my medical career at Edinburgh University and graduated in 1998 with an honours degree in medicine and a first class intercalated BSc in respiratory pathology. Since then I have served as a Medical Officer with the Royal Navy including specialist interests in diving medicine, submarine medicine and a tour of Afghanistan.
I specialised in respiratory medicine in Edinburgh before moving to Leicester to complete an MD in exercise asthma in elite athletes, a topic on which I have published extensively. I am a medical advisor to the world class performance programme for British Swimming and have managed asthma for a number of national and international athletes, especially in the run up to London 2012 where I provided sports medicine services at the Aquatics Centre for the Olympic games.
My interests are asthma, exercise asthma, occupational aspects of lung disease, pleural disease and interventional bronchoscopy.

Outside of work I am married to Rachel who works in Leicestershire as a GP. We have three young sons, who are all keen sportsmen in their own right. With what little time there remains in the week I am also a keen cyclist, swimmer and runner and am planning to complete both the Dragon Ride (Wales) and Etape du Tour (France) cycle rides as well as trying to rejuvenate my previous interests in Triathlon.
