Specialises in
I am a chartered clinical psychologist with many years of experience in adult mental health. My current speciality is to offer clinical psychological support to patients with long term health conditions such as ME, MS, coronary heart disease, COPD and cancer.
I have experience in offering therapy for those struggling with the impact of the physical illness on their mental well-being, understanding their difficulty in managing chronic pain, symptoms of anxiety and depression that often are exacerbated when struggling to cope with the disease and its treatment.
I also have expertise in working with patients with enduring complex and enduring mental health difficulties and often with patients with difficulties such as OCD and phobias.
In addition to this I have developed a special interest and expertise in performing psychological assessment and screening of patients waiting to undergo surgery such as bilateral mastectomy, often enabling them to understand the difficult decisions before them and to prepare them for some of the risks and changes surgery can bring.
I offer many models of psychological support from the more common therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness and hypnotherapy to more counselling approaches and newer models such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), delivering therapy based on a thorough assessment of psychological difficulties.
Following additional professional training I offer clinical supervision to nursing and medical staff as well as various training workshops in psychological skills.
I train clinical nurses and health professionals in psychological skills. I also provide Clinical Supervision to health professionals.
