Professional profile

I graduated in medicine and surgery (MB.BS) from St George's Hospital, London in 1997 having previously trained in Maxillofacial Surgery after graduating in dentistry from Edinburgh University. In 2000 I became a fellow in general surgery (FRCS) of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Following my training in general surgery, I undertook specialist training in reconstructive plastic and cosmetic surgery in the UK and America in Manchester, London, Yorkshire, Michigan and Philadelphia.

Between 2002 and 2004 I was the Craniofacial Surgery fellow at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, during which time I undertook research in tissue bioengineering, culminating in the postgraduate award of Doctorate in Medicine (MD) from University College London. I was awarded the Fellowship in Plastic Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons FRCS (Plast) in 2009.

As a fully trained Plastic Surgeon, I am entered on the General Medical Council (GMC) specialist register for plastic surgery. Further to my specialist training in reconstructive plastic surgery, I have undertaken additional training fellowships in breast and microsurgery and was appointed the first Fellow in Cosmetic Surgery awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons.

I have been published in the plastic surgery literature and have presented my work nationally and internationally at plastic surgery and scientific meetings. I am also actively involved in the postgraduate training of future plastic surgeons and feel strongly that the apprenticeship model of training for surgeons is maintained.
