Professional profile

I am a Consultant Cardiologist, specialising in heart rhythm management and have worked at Wythenshawe Hospital (University Hospital of South Manchester) since 2002. I trained in the UK and in Australia, completing specialist fellowships in Sydney and Melbourne.

My clinical practice covers a wide range of heart conditions with a particular focus on heart rhythm abnormalities. I aim to provide a holistic assessment and management plan which can include pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. I am experienced in the use of radio-frequency and cryo-ablation, pacemakers and implantable defibrillators and I have trained consultants in the use of cryo-ablation for atrial fibrillation across the UK, Europe and the Middle East. I also have a special interest in Sports Cardiology at the elite and amateur levels and will use a range of treatment and monitoring options to enable patients to maintain and develop physical fitness whenever possible.

I have been the lead for Heart Rhythm for the Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cumbria Strategic Clinical Network. I have been the Clinical Director of Cardiothoracic Services at UHSM from 2010 – 14 and I am currently the Deputy Medical director of UHSM and a Clinical Lead for the Single Hospital Service project in Manchester.

As an honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester I have supervised a range of research projects with topics including the management of atrial fibrillation, optimisation of cardiac device therapy and the effect of omega 3 fish oils on atrial electrophysiology.
