West Ham United FC players visit brand new Children and Young Peoples Unit at Spire London East Hospital

24 November 2017

On Wednesday afternoon spirits were high at Spire London East Hospital as Joe Hart, Winston Weis, Declan Reid and Andy Carroll visited our brand new Paediatrics’ unit. The players were greeted by excited children and staff alike before having a tour of the new facility. After a few photographs were taken of the nurses and children with the players, the senior management team guided them around our private hospital to their brand new state of the art MRI scanner. The MRI unit has been developed with the patient in mind; as well as choosing a machine which reduces noise by 90%, our hospital made the decision to install mood lighting to create a more tranquil atmosphere.

The team were also taken into theatre to have a demonstration from our very own consultant gastroenterologist Dr Ashraf, showcasing the hospital’s new endoscopy equipment including a pill sized camera for deeper examinations of the colon. The players were then whisked through to the Ophthalmology Suite where Joe and Andy tested out some of the new equipment’s capabilities; then it was on to the most important part of the day, the ‘Kiddies Press Conference’ held in our hospital’s board room. The mini Q&A with the children was fantastic and really inspired each child (and adult) in the room.  Hospital Director, Adrian Brady said “it was a real opportunity for our staff and the children to meet their idols. Nothing was too much for the players, and everyone had the opportunity to have their memorabilia signed. We’re very grateful to each of the players, as well as their management team for taking the time out of their busy schedules to visit us. The hospital is still buzzing”

After a successful afternoon the players thanked all the staff and left via reception where our hospital’s Business Development Manager, Natasha Browne saw an opportunity to promote the #RodingIsChanging marketing campaign with the players. She fed back that “The players were completely engaged throughout the time they were here. The staff were made to feel really special and so were the children; especially when Joe Hart held a staff member’s baby to sooth him when he became a little overwhelmed. It’s a really special relationship Spire Roding has with West Ham United FC and with some exciting changes on the horizon for our hospital we’re proud to be going into 2018 with them”

The day was an absolute success and there were smiles all-round.
