Professional profile

I graduated from King's College School of Medicine and Dentistry, London, and trained in several world-renowned centres of excellence, including the Hammersmith Hospital; John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford; The Heart Hospital, University College Hospital; and the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. I was awarded my MD degree after dedicated research at the University of Oxford. My thesis, 'Functional Assessment of Coronary Artery Disease using MRI,' was highly commended. I have a distinguished academic record, winning international investigator research awards and with over 60 publications. I obtained a Masters in Law in the legal and ethical aspects of medical practice at Cardiff Law School. At Kettering, I established one of the UK's first specialist-commissioned cardiac MRI services, a large volume stress echo service and a dedicated Heart Function Unit. Under my leadership, my department achieved British Society of Echocardiography accreditation, which only 38 hospitals in the country have obtained.

I specialise in general cardiology with specific interest in the following areas: Cardiovascular Imaging through magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography [CT] and Echocardiography [echo]). Diagnosis, treatment and prevention of Coronary Disease. Cardiovascular risk assessment and assessment of chest pain, breathlessness and palpitations. Heart Failure and Heart Function. Heart Rhythm disturbance, including Atrial Fibrillation. Blood pressure and lipid abnormalities (Hypertension and Dyslipidaemia). Cardiology in the elderly. Academia (Education and Research), Clinical Leadership and Quality Improvement.

I am a Faculty Member of the Leicester Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit and Expert Member for the East Midlands Clinical Senate Assembly, NHS England and am a Member of the NHS Clinical Leaders Network. I am Reviewer for the National Institute for Health Research.

I have published original research articles, review articles, case reports and original abstracts in: European Journal of Heart Failure, International Journal of Cardiology, Heart, International Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, Journal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, Radiology, Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Cardiology News, Heart Lung Circulation, International Journal of Clinical Practice, European Heart Journal.

My honours and awards include: The Young Investigator Award - Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance 9th Annual Scientific Sessions (2006). The Investigator Prize - British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance 2nd Meeting (2007). I was a finalist in Moderated Poster Session - Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance 10th Annual Scientific Sessions (2007), and a finalist for the President’s Medal - Royal Society of Medicine (2008). I was co-author of Best Poster Winner - American College of Cardiology (2013) and received a Clinical Excellence Award at Kettering General Hospital (2015). I was co-author of the Young Investigator Award which was awarded Runner-up - British Society for Heart Failure (2015).
