Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Alwyn Abraham at Spire include:
Mr Abraham treats orthopaedic conditions affecting children of all ages: Knee pain and knee injuries. Foot disorders. Hip disorders. Fractures. Unexplained bone and joint pain.
In April 2007, I was appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon in Leicester. My orthopaedic training had taken place in the Northern Deanery and at the Booth Hall Children's Hospital, Manchester. Prior to that I was a medical student in Edinburgh where I also completed my junior surgical training.
My Clinical practice consists of paediatric clinics each week in which I see a broad selection of primary and secondary referrals. I have operating lists and a pre-admission clinic each week.
In addition I am an enthusiastic trauma surgeon seeing the full range of injuries. I have particular expertise in children's injuries, circular frame fixation, non union and infection.
Limb deformity correction is a particular interest of mine. This service is provided on a tertiary basis for Leicestershire and the surrounding counties. The service covers both adults and children who have suffered who have suffered deformity either due to congenital causes or after trauma and infection.
I perform about 350 operations every year and of these about 220 are on children aged between 0 and 16 years of age.
As Lead for Junior Orthopaedic Medical Staffing. Leicester Royal Infirmary, I am reponsible for ensuring that the NHS Orthopaedic department is adequately staffed.
In addition to my clinical leadership, I am the designated trainer for junior surgeons in Leicester. In 2015 I was recognised as the 'Orthopaedic Trainer of the Year'; a prestigious award from junior doctors who appreciate the skills and knowledge that I am able to impart.
