I am currently a consultant respiratory physician and associate medical director at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I am also an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Leeds.
I set up the severe asthma service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2006 and have published my research work on severe asthma since then. I run a weekly severe asthma clinic at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and chair a severe asthma multi-disciplinary team held fortnightly. I have particular interest in the inhalation profiles in patients with severe asthma and COPD and have published my work on this field. I have pioneered the use of Omalizumab in the treatment of severe allergic asthma and have been involved in most clinical trials involving the newer biologic treatment in severe asthma.
In 2009 I established the respiratory clinical trials unit at Bradford Institute for Health Research. This unit has grown to become one of the largest self-funded respiratory clinical trials in the UK. I have been the chief co-ordinating investigator in the UK for several multi-national phase 2 and 3 severe asthma and COPD clinical trials. The unit has recruited several Global first and European first patients into these trials. In 2016 I was awarded the best principle investigator award in the UK for my delivery into the commercial respiratory research portfolio by NIHR.
I was appointed to the role of associate director of research at the Bradford Institute for Health Research in 2014. Since my appointment I have been able to grow the commercial research portfolio at the Bradford Institute for Health research to over 1.25 million pounds. The unit has now moved to a brand new facility under my stewardship and has enhanced research in several new areas in the trust.
In 2016, I was also appointed to the role of divisional clinical lead for industry at the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network. I work very closely with the national and regional co-ordinating centre to grow commercial research in the region and nationally. I am also the national industry lead for respiratory medicine at the National Institute for Health Research.
