Professional profile

I qualified from St George's Medical School in 1985. I then trained in the speciality in a number of London teaching hospitals including Charing Cross and Westminster Hospitals (registrar), Chelsea and Westminster and St Mary's Hospital (research) and Guys and St Thomas Hospitals (senior registrar). I took up my first consultant post at Mayday University Hospital in Croydon in 1999 but the lure of coming back to where I was brought up (Stanmore) led me to move across the river to Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust. My training as a senior registrar was specifically in minimal access surgery and I am accredited in this speciality.

Personal Profile

I am married to my long suffering wife Jagruti and we have three daughters with whom I adore spending any spare time. I also look after my mother and aunt both in their 70's believing strongly in the extended family. With so many women in the house my waistline needs constant attention which I try to keep in control with my love of the outdoors. My favourite is rambling and not surprisingly my personal greatest achievement has been to trek up Mount Kilimanjaro. Born in Mombassa near the Indian Ocean, swimming is second nature to me and I recently completed a PADI open water diving course. I continue to try skiing but have been spotted more off rather than on the slopes. My ambition is to continue to enjoy what I do both professionally and personally by remaining in good health and to live long enough to spend plenty of time with my children and hopefully grandchildren.
