Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Pia Amsler at Spire include:
Pain control and managing difficult symptoms in patients with cancer, both those undergoing active oncology treatment and those with more advanced disease, form the main part of my work. A comprehensive review of the patients’ physical, emotional and social needs is the most important element of my practice.
I also have a substantial interest in symptom control for patients who suffer from chronic illnesses other than cancer, such as Parkinson’s Disease and other degenerative neurological conditions; chronic cardiopulmonary diseases such as heart failure and COPD as well as advanced renal failure.
Having studied in Aachen, Germany, I came to England as a junior doctor and soon decided to specialise in Palliative Medicine. I trained in symptom control and palliative care in various hospitals and hospices in Cardiff, Oxfordshire, Cambridge and Essex. I work as a Consultant Palliative Care Physician at Isabel Hospice in Welwyn Garden City since 2007 to support patients and their families in Hertfordshire.

I spend most of my free time with my four young children and at their primary school where I am the chairperson of the Parents-Teacher-Association. Working in my vegetable and flower garden provides me with important time out to relax as do our recently acquired flock of chickens. When training in Cardiff, I was introduced to quilting and still enjoy the associated creativity and meeting other local quilters.Back to top
