Musculoskeletal injuries in sporting children and adolescents

28 September 2021

Spire Gatwick Park Hospital

Free online event to discuss common lower limb conditions in sporting children with Highly Specialist Physiotherapist, Malcolm Martin

Sport plays an important part in a child's development. It helps them develop physical skills, learn teamwork, make friends, and get exercise amongst other things. However because they are still growing they are more susceptible to sports injuries.

During our free online event our Highly Specialist Physiotherapist, Malcolm Martin, will offer some useful tips and advice to help our budding athletes and answer any questions you may have.

His presentation will focus on common lower limb conditions such as Osgood Schlatter's disease (pain and swelling below the knee joint) and Sever's disease (one of the most common causes of heel pain in growing children and adolescents). Malcolm will also cover the following topics:

  • an understanding of the anatomy of the immature skeleton and physiology of growth tissues
  • revise common lower limb sports injuries in growing children
  • provide practical advise to parents and their children

Our physiotherapy information evening is part of our Paediatric Series. Each month we are hosting free online information events for parents and carers, each time covering a different subject (ENT, dermatology, gastroenterology, etc...).

The event will be hosted via Zoom. You will be sent an event link to access the event when you register for the event.

For confidentiality we ask that you change your zoom screen name to your initials when you log on to the session.

Zoom is a video conferencing service for hosting live virtual meetings. Zoom can be used from a computer, mobile or tablet. You don’t need a Zoom account to attend a virtual patient event.
